Hagg.ai’s media intelligence pinpoints how and where news arises so netizens can understand the range of antisemitism and Jewish security news from around the globe.

Around the world, “antisemitic, xenophobic, and hateful messages and conspiracy theories are proliferating rapidly online,” according to the Anti-Defamation League, especially in relation to conspiracies related to coronavirus. And 63% of surveyed Jews have had personal experiences with antisemitism and hate in the United States over the past five years, according to the 2021 Survey on Jewish Americans’ Experiences with Antisemitism. Likewise, in Europe, violent online rhetoric has been coupled with antisemitic offline physical attacks in recent years, and the European Union has responded with the Council Declaration on the fight against antisemitism.

“Hagg.ai solves the Jewish Diaspora’s current challenge of relying on a mishmash of reporting and alerting methods for understanding both ongoing Jewish security news and pending crises,” says Daniel Levinson, founder of Hagg.ai. “Hagg.ai is empowering. It’s the immediately usable platform that brings together all the critical Antisemitism and Jewish security information online, anywhere and anytime.”

Computer algorithms generally select what is shown on Hagg.ai from thousands of online sources, and the algorithms determine which stories, images, and videos show, and in what order. Individual news stories are copyright their respective sources on Hagg.ai, and Hagg.ai organizes the data based on Natural Language Processing techniques. Future iterations of Hagg.ai will introduce non-English-language source data translated and organized into English. Levinson has been working in the OSINT, artificial intelligence, and media intelligence world for over 20 years, primarily in Asia, where he has founded, built, and sold multiple data intelligence companies that supplied critical business and risk intelligence to government, corporate, and organizational clients.

From where does the name Hagg.ai originate? Haggai was one of the twelve minor prophets in the Tanakh, or Hebrew Bible, during the building of the Second Temple in Jerusalem. Most importantly, he is known for two important things: he is the author of the eponymous Book of Haggai; and in 520 BCE he had his prophecy where he commanded the Jews to rebuild the Temple.

While the daily briefs on Hagg.ai are continuously free for all subscribers, the platform is funded by donations and by advertising both inside the daily email alerts and on the Hagg.ai website. Netizens can also visit Hagg.ai via social media on Twitter at https://twitter.com/hagg_ai or LinkedIn at https://www.linkedin.com/company/haggai/

The book dives into the history of China’s technology development with a focus on the semiconductors industry, and illustrates how this saga of innovation shapes current and future tech clashes between the United States and China.

“Everyone is talking about the U.S.-China tech war, but few tried to understand it from a perspective of history,” says Nina Xiang, author of the book. “I wrote this book so that readers can understand how the U.S. and China arrived at their current positions.”

Despite decades of government-led efforts to boost its semiconductor chips industry, China has lagged far behind other countries, and the nation is vulnerable to U.S. trade blockades. US-China Tech War focuses on the semiconductor chip industry, the epicenter of the current US-China tech rivalry.

The book dispels key myths about how China progressed technologically: the whole-nation model, forced technology transfer, and China’s efforts to stimulate home-grown tech. The book’s deeper analysis into these hyped terms reveals a new angle for China’s innovation journey that will surprise readers.

“The U.S.-China tech war is not one started with a manifesto from either side or with one defining moment; it’s better defined as a war with sporadic barrages and unpredictable battles overlaying a steady hum of preparation,” says Nina Xiang. “Some frontlines have already been drawn, especially in regards to semiconductors, 5G, and artificial intelligence. These areas are seeing deepening decoupling between the two countries that is tearing apart decades of globalized supply chains.”

The book is currently available on promotion in e-book and paperback formats:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B098YSDSD6

Nina Xiang is an expert on the Chinese venture capital and technology sector with nearly twenty years of financial and business media experience. She has held editorial positions at Bloomberg BusinessWeek, Euromoney Institutional Investor, China Radio International, and China Business Network in Beijing, New York, Shanghai, and Hong Kong.

In 2011, she founded China Money Network, a platform tracking China’s smart investments and technology innovation. Nina Xiang is part of the team winning an Excellence in Human Rights Reporting honor in SOPA Awards in 2007. She was awarded a Foreign Press Association Annual Scholarship in 2007.

She is an agenda contributor for the World Economic Forum and was named Female Entrepreneur of the Year at the ChinaBang Awards 2019. She appears frequently in a range of international media, including the BBC and CGTN. Her previous book Red AI: Victories and Warnings From China’s Rise In Artificial Intelligence was the number one new release in its category.

Hong Kong, China, April 1, 2021 /Xinwengao.com/ - The spotted lanternfly has come to the United States, and that’s bad news. This invasive insect native to China, Bangladesh and Vietnam can damage trees, crops and wood decks, threaten the economy, and be an all-around nuisance.

Sightings

The spotted lanternfly was first seen in the U.S. in Pennsylvania in September 2014. Since then, it’s appeared in Connecticut, Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Virginia and West Virginia. Scientists believe that it came to America on goods that were imported from Asia.

Pennsylvania’s Quarantine

One of several states to have a quarantine on the SLF (spotted lanternfly) is Pennsylvania. At least 26 of its counties are under that directive. The state requires agricultural and non-agricultural businesses that transport products that can be infested by the insect to have a permit.

Among the items under stricter state control are construction, landscaping and remodeling materials; logs, stumps and tree parts; grapevines; nursery stock; crates, pallets and packaging materials; RVs and mobile homes; tractors and mowers; grills, deck boards; and vehicles not stored indoors. In addition to a watchful eye over items, Pennsylvania does not allow the movement of the SLF in any of its life stages: egg mass, nymph or adult.

Plant Species the Spotted Lanternfly Damages

Although the spotted lanternfly threatens many plant products, particularly apples, grapes, hops, walnuts and hardwood trees, it’s been seen on at least 103 kinds of plants and trees. Add to the list rose, plum, river birch, willow, sumac, pine, silver maple, red maple and tree-of-heaven, an invasive plant.

How the SLF Harms Trees and Plants

The SLF damages in several ways. By sucking the sap from branches and stems, it weakens the host. In feeding, it leaves behind honeydew, which is a sticky substance that invites other insects. Honeydew also promotes the growth of sooty mold on plants and trees.

Identification of the Pest

Adult spotted lanternflies (July to December) are about 1-inch long and 1/2-inch wide. An early nymph (widely seen from late April to July) is about 1/8-inch long, and it is black with white spots. A late nymph (prominent from July to September) is about 1/2-inch long, and it is black and red with white spots.

With wings wide open in its adult stage, the insect’s forewings are gray with black spots, and its hind wings are gray with black spots. When someone or something disturbs it, the SLF shows its beautiful bright red underwings.

When wings are closed, the insect is mostly gray with black spots. Newly laid egg masses look as if they are covered with a white substance. On more mature egg masses, the substance may turn gray-brown. Very mature egg masses appear as rows of 30 to 50 seed-like structures in vertical columns.

Objects On Which the SLF Is Found

The spotted lanternfly can’t fly far, but it infests by landing on objects. That’s why residents are urged to examine their vehicles and keep car and truck windows closed when parked. It’s also suggested that people inspect trees, rocks, cement blocks, decks, and other hard surfaces for egg masses. Do the same for landscaping materials, lawnmowers and outdoor equipment that’s being moved from one place to another.

Controlling Egg Masses

Managing the pest includes scraping and destroying its eggs and killing the more mature insects. When residents find egg masses that have been laid on trees, rocks and blocks of cement in the months from September to June, they should scrape them off. Pour hand sanitizer or rubbing alcohol into a freezer bag and scrape the pest into the bag with a plastic card or a putty knife. Dispose of the sealed bag. Residents can also smash egg masses.

Managing the Dissemination of Adult Lanternflies

Also look underneath cars and in wheel wells. Adult insects are ever-present in the months from July through late December. In searching for them examine trees and plants, especially at dusk and at night when the insects are more likely to be on trunks and stems. As with egg masses, one method of removing mature SLFs is by smashing them.

Other methods of control include removing plants and trees that the SLF feeds on, using tree traps to catch newly hatched nymphs and treating trees and plants with EPA-approved insecticides.
Hong Kong, China, March 30, 2021 /Xinwengao.com/ - The United States is the single most popular destination for cross-border residential real estate buyers from across Asia, according to the new Top 10 Asian Buyer Picks report from Asian real estate technology group Juwai IQI.

Australia, Thailand, Canada and Malaysia make up the rest of the top five markets. Japan is sixth most popular, followed by Singapore, the UK, New Zealand and France.

Of the ten most popular Asian-buyer markets, six are in the Asia Pacific. The US, Canada, the UK and France are the only top-ten nations not in the Asia Pacific.

Juwai IQI’s report identifies four drivers of Asian cross-border buying demand.

Interest rates have dropped to historic lows and monetary stimulus has helped drive prices upward in many markets. Buyers worry as a result that they will miss out on future price gains. They are eager to find opportunities to benefit from price growth.

Because of the pandemic, many Asian buyers have reevaluated their cross-border real estate priorities. This is similar to changes that have occurred within local markets.

Some Asian cross-border buyers are also driven by factors in their home markets that make investing there less appealing. In China, government real estate restrictions cause some buyers to look overseas. Other countries face insufficient inventory or weak confidence. There is a large number of buyers who postponed acquisitions during the pandemic and are eager to make up for lost time.

“In 2020, the pandemic scrambled existing patterns of investment, migration and overseas education,” said Juwai IQI Co-Founder and Group Executive Chairman Georg Chmiel.

“All of these factors have a direct bearing on Asian cross-border real estate investment.”

Hong Kong, China, March 8, 2021 /Xinwengao.com/ - Visa Franchise, the leading advisor for identifying and analyzing US businesses for foreign nationals who qualify for the E-2 Visa, has recently launched their E-2 Visa Approvals and Denials Statistics report for 2020. The E-2 Visa is one of the most popular US visas a foreign national can obtain in order to immigrate to the US. Due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, the number of visas issued by the US has dropped from 8,7 million non-immigrant visas issued in 2019 to only 4 million non-immigrant visas issued in 2020.

Visa Franchise notes that the E-2 Visa has suffered several policy changes in 2020. These changes were in large part due to the mandate in Section 10 of Executive Order 13780, requiring the Department of State to review all non-immigrant visa reciprocity agreements to make sure they are truly reciprocal. As a result of these changes, citizens of Macedonia are no longer eligible for E-2 Visa, the citizens of Chile, Denmark, Norway, and Latvia have their E-2 Visa validity period reduced, and the citizens of Mexico have their E-2 Visa validity period extended from 12 months to 48 months. In 2020, only 23,493 foreign nationals obtained an E-2 Visa, while 3,266 applicants were rejected. This translates to a denial rate of 12,21%, which is less than half of the 25% denial rate for all non-immigrant visas.

According to Visa Franchise, Japan is the country with the highest E-2 Visa issuances with 8,654 Japanese citizens obtaining this type of visa in 2020. Most of the Japanese E-2 Visas are for E-2 managers that are transferred to work in a E-2 company in the United States. The next places in the report are occupied by Canada with 2,500 approvals, South Korea with 1,973 approvals, Germany with 1,487 approvals, France with 1,279 approvals, Great Britain and Northern Ireland with 1,275 approvals, Mexico with 838 approvals, Italy with 827 approvals, Spain with 583 approvals, and on the 10th place Taiwan, China with 390 approvals. Most E-2 Visas from countries besides Japan and Germany represent investor visas applied by individual entrepreneurs who plan to operate a small U.S. business.

Getting approval for certain immigrant and non-immigrant visas has become more difficult due to the stricter immigration policies implemented under the Trump administration. The E-2 Visa is one of the most popular and sought-after visas in the entire US immigration system. This visa allows applicants to renew indefinitely, enter and exit the US multiple times in the validity period and stay in the US for as long as two years per entry.

Visa Franchise is providing a smooth and secure path for families moving to the US through the E-2 investor visa. They can help foreign nationals looking to legally reside in the US by investing in a US small business. Their team analyzes the best business opportunities for their clients based on their unique profiles. Their research team constantly analyzes franchise and business concepts in order to deliver the best small business investment solutions directly to the customer.

Hong Kong, China, March 2, 2021 /Xinwengao.com/ - Six-fold more mainland Chinese investment flows into Australian residential real estate than into housing in the United States, when adjusted for GDP, according to new research from Juwai IQI.

This startling statistic comes from Juwai IQI’s new Q1 2021 residential real estate report, “Asian Investment in Australia.” The unprecedented report is sponsored by Kay & Burton, the leader in Melbourne’s premium real estate market.

China is not the only major Asian investor in Australia, however. Singapore, Malaysia, and Japan also lead in inbound investment. Thailand and Vietnam are prominent growth countries.

COVID-19 has had a significant negative impact, knocking Chinese real estate buyer enquiries back by some 19.2% in 2020.

Juwai IQI Co-Founder and Group Executive Chairman Georg Chmiel said:

“What you can obtain by reading the ‘Asian Investment in Australia’ report is a clear overview of one of the world’s most significant channels of residential property investment. The report includes data on total investment by source country, investor preferences, the impact of COVID-19 and the post-pandemic outlook.”

“Asian Investment in Australia” also includes an exclusive interview with Jamie Mi, Partner & Head of International Division at Kay & Burton, the report’s sponsor. Mi explains why she expects inbound investment to rebound from the second half of 2021 and Significant Investor Visas seems to have accelerated.

Kay & Burton’s Mi said:

“Thee Asian communities overseas are watching Australia very closely. There are many positive reasons they like Australia, including education, the stable political environment, and how we are handling COVID-19 thus far.

“Next year, there will be plenty of buyers coming in and plenty of offshore wealth invested in Australia. It will be Asian buyers, and also buyers from the U.S. and U.K. and expats.”

Hong Kong, China, February 19, 2021 /Xinwengao.com/ - Yunfu Clothing (Yunfu), the Chinese clothing company, has selected Centric Software’s Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) solution. Centric Software provides the most innovative enterprise solutions to fashion, retail, footwear, outdoor, luxury, consumer goods and home décor companies to achieve strategic and operational digital transformation goals.

Yunfu’s main business involves sweaters, cotton, knitwear and woven garments which are solely exported to the United States. It has a unique business model that integrates R&D and design, product manufacturing, warehousing and transportation, order processing, wholesale operations and e-commerce retail.

Yunfu has always been customer-centered, and is facing greater challenges due to this year’s pandemic. Therefore, Yunfu has accelerated its digital transformation and aims to improve R&D efficiency, strengthen product management and optimize team collaboration with PLM technology. Before selecting Centric Manufacturing PLM, Yunfu had an in-house PLM system.

Yunfu COO Mr. Hua Haoxin says, “The previous system could no longer meet our needs. We attach great importance to our investment in R&D management, so we needed a more professional and modern PLM solution.”

Mr. Hua adds, “Centric Software has a comprehensive understanding of the clothing industry. Yunfu has many R&D and sales teams who are mostly overseas, so we needed a system that enables global team collaboration. A company as highly regarded as Centric Software is a perfect match for us.”

Yunfu’s PLM project was launched in October, with key objectives including accumulating foundation data and establishing a knowledge base to support rapid R&D; increasing collaboration and achieving transparent and controllable product development; and finally, establishing a customer-oriented product library to more accurately understand market demands on the planning side.

Mr. Hua mentioned the professionalism of the entire implementation team, and looks forward to the valuable experience that Centric can share with Yunfu.

“We are very pleased that another giant in the Chinese textile industry – Yunfu Clothing – has chosen Centric PLM to enhance its capabilities in independent brand R&D and innovation,” says Chris Groves, President and CEO of Centric Software. “Yunfu and Centric Software share many core values, and we are excited to assist Yunfu’s global business development.”

Ponddy officially launches the first At-home Online HSK test center in the US along with its new AI-powered smart learning solutions for Chinese Language learners.

San Jose, United States, February 10, 2021 /Xinwengao.com/ - Ponddy® Education Inc., an industry leader in AI smart language learning, has recently announced its official partnership with “CTI”, Chinese Testing International Co., Ltd. – the global HSK language examination provider – to launch the hsk.ponddy.com. Ponddy® HSK is the first online HSK test center in the U.S.A. that offers at-home online testing services for HSK, HSKK, YCT, and BCT official Chinese language tests. Students may prepare for the tests with Ponddy® courses, which are designed by an expert-teaching team and are fully accredited by ACS Western Association of Schools and Colleges of the United States. With the addition to the testing service, Ponddy now offers complete Chinese learning solutions that include intelligent platforms, customized resources, tailored curricula, on-line tutors, and at-home online testing services.

HSK test results are required by universities in China as proof of language proficiency for enrollment and scholarship applications. In the US, many States accept the result as the basis for awarding the Seal of Biliteracy. Although HSK has had its internet-based test option, takers still need to go to an offline test center to complete the test online. The newly launched Ponddy® HSK at-home test edition enables risk-free test-taking from the threat of Covid-19 pandemic: test-takers in the US can complete the exam safely from the comfort of their homes.

“We are excited to partner with CTI.
To be launched in 2021, the Trumid XT platform will bring connectivity and efficiency to global bond markets

New York, United States, February 9, 2021 /Xinwengao.com/ - Trumid, Singapore Exchange (SGX) and Hillhouse Capital have formed a joint venture, XinTru, to enhance liquidity and execution in the Asian bond market for global clients.

This partnership combines Trumid’s cutting-edge technology and fixed income expertise, SGX’s deep experience in Asian financial market infrastructure and electronic trading, and Hillhouse’s expertise and network in Asia and the financial services sector.

XinTru will launch and operate Trumid XT, an electronic bond trading platform powered by advanced technology and rich analytics. With an emphasis on domain-focused and intuitive product design, the platform will seamlessly fit into traders’ workflows. Trumid XT will connect the commercial footprint and liquidity from SGX’s Bond Pro and Trumid’s Market Center in the United States (US), to provide a robust network for trading of Asian fixed income.

Trumid XT will enhance international access to Asian bond markets, while also facilitating Asian investor participation in US and global emerging market credit. Asia’s fixed income market continues to expand on the back of economic growth and low interest rates, which have driven increases in corporate bond issuance and inflows to Asia-focused funds.

Trumid has established a leadership position in electronic bond trading innovation since the company’s launch in 2015. Its bond trading and market intelligence platform in the US features unique trading protocols and a broad network of over 535 buy and sell side institutions. Trumid experienced exceptional growth in 2020, with trade volumes growing 374% year-over-year. The company differentiates itself through nimble technology and product expertise, with rapid technology release cycles to meet its clients’ needs.

As Asia’s leading international fixed income marketplace, SGX is Asia’s most global bond venue with over 40% of Asia Pacific’s G3 currency issuances listed on the exchange. To date, SGX has listed over 6,600 listed securities by more than 1,600 issuers from 66 countries, with amounts issued of over US$2.2 trillion in 26 currencies. With Trumid XT’s launch, SGX Bond Pro’s diverse client base across Asia Pacific, UK, Europe and the Middle East will be able to connect seamlessly on one platform. Since its 2015 launch, SGX Bond Pro has built a diverse participant base that includes global and regional dealers, bank treasuries, wealth and asset managers, family offices and hedge funds.

XinTru’s independent management team includes Chief Revenue Officer Ben Falloon who brings 20 years of Asia fixed income experience and relationships, and Chief Operating Officer Mark Leahy who has significant experience building and operating capital markets businesses in the region.

Strategic Partnership To Elevate Bond Trading in Asia:

SGX first invested in Trumid back in 2018 and subsequently joined Hillhouse Capital in another round of investment in 2019 when Hillhouse Capital took a minority stake in Trumid.

Loh Boon Chye, Chief Executive Officer of SGX said, “Our early investment in Trumid paved the way for this deeper collaboration to advance the overall bond market infrastructure in Asia. Leveraging our Asian network and our Bond Pro business, we are excited to partner with Trumid and Hillhouse to accelerate the digitalisation and realise the full potential of Asia’s bond trading markets. XinTru brings together the unique characteristics of the partners in a joint venture where the sum is much greater than the parts.”

“Our upcoming platform, Trumid XT, is the missing link between Asian and US markets and will connect their respective liquidity pools in a transparent and efficient manner. Offering solutions that support the existing dealer-to-client market structure as well as investor-to-investor, Trumid XT will create network effects that can unlock significant opportunities in Asian bond trading markets for our clients.”

Mike Sobel, President of Trumid, said, “Our US experience demonstrates that built-for-purpose technology and workflow tools can transform the bond trading experience. Our US clients are excited to introduce their colleagues in Asia to the Trumid XT platform. With our partners, we look forward to adding value for our global client base and driving growth of electronic bond trading in Asia.”

Lei Zhang, Founder and Chief Investment Officer of Hillhouse, said, “We believe that Asian bond markets are ready for the next level of growth. Given Trumid’s success in developing a state-of-the-art bond trading platform in the US, together with SGX’s fixed income experience in Asia as well as Hillhouse’s network and operational expertise, Trumid XT promises to be an outstanding Asian corporate bond trading platform for the world.”

#1 risk for 2021: 46*—Biden’s election heralds era in which half of America’s voters view every new president as illegitimate.

New York, USA, January 12, 2021 /Xinwengao.com/ - As we begin 2021, the United States is the most powerful, politically divided, and economically unequal of the world’s industrial democracies. China is America’s strongest competitor, a state capitalist, authoritarian, and techno-surveillance state that is increasingly mistrusted by most G20 countries. Germany and Japan are much more stable, but the most powerful leaders both nations have had in decades are out (former Japanese Prime Minister Abe Shinzo) or on their way out (German Chancellor Angela Merkel). Russia is in decline and blames the US and the West for its woes.

Even as the world grapples with its worst crisis since World War II, some risks are more potent, deadly, and likely to change the course of world politics. These are Eurasia Group’s Top Risks for 2021, the firm’s annual prediction of the ten greatest threats to the trajectories of nations, global politics, industries and institutions. Unveiled each January, Top Risks helps investors, companies and the public anticipate and respond to opportunities wherever they invest or do business. The report is co-written by Eurasia Group President Ian Bremmer and Chairman Cliff Kupchan.

The #1 risk for 2021 is “46*”—the opening of an era in which the occupant of the White House is viewed as illegitimate by roughly half the country. Donald Trump’s refusal to accept the outcome of an election that he declares was stolen is unique in American history, underscoring how divided America has become—and will remain.

“A superpower torn down the middle cannot return to business as usual,” write Bremmer and Kupchan. “And when the world’s most powerful country is so divided, everybody has a problem. The geopolitical recession—and our G-Zero world—will deepen as a result.”

Bremmer and Kupchan go on to argue that the strength of Trump’s base and political divisions in the US will force allies to consider the possibility that any commitments made by the incoming Biden administration could be overturned in four years with the election of another “America First” president.

Other Top Risks in the report include the ongoing impact of the coronavirus pandemic, climate change, the US-China conflict, data and cybersecurity, and distinct threats facing Turkey, the Middle East, Europe, and Latin America. The report also includes several “red herrings”—issues that, despite media attention, are unlikely to pose significant threats or drive instability in the coming year.

Top Risks has an impressive track record for being both early and accurate in its predictions. Eurasia Group’s 2020 Top Risks report, for example, correctly predicted a contested US election as its #1 risk.

Bremmer and Kupchan will host an on-the-record press conference call today, 4 January, at 10:30 a.m. EST/15:30 GMT to discuss the risks and take questions. To participate, please register here.

Below is a summary of all ten Top Risks for 2021. Please click here for the full report.

TOP RISKS 2021

When the world’s most powerful country is as divided as the United States is now, the G-Zero geopolitical recession is sure to deepen. The world needs the leadership and cooperation that an engaged and well-functioning superpower can help provide, because, just as the healthcare response to the coronavirus pandemic defined 2020, the economic response to its lasting damage will define 2021.

#1 – 46*

Following a 2016 Trump victory that many Democrats believe Russia helped him win, Biden’s term opens the era of the asterisk presidency, a time when every Oval Office occupant is seen as illegitimate by roughly half the country—and the lawmakers that election skeptics send to Congress. Most of the risk here is domestic, but the consequences of extreme polarization for democratic legitimacy extend well beyond US borders. Apart from a shared desire to contain China, Republicans and Democrats will disagree sharply—with each other and among themselves—over the objectives of US foreign policy. In addition, the size of Trump’s base, and the broadening of that base to include more minority voters, leaves allies and potential partners wondering whether the next “America First” president and foreign policy are just four years away.

#2 – Long Covid

In 2021, the lingering symptoms of Covid-19 will threaten not just lives but political stability and the global economy. Countries around the world will struggle to meet ambitious vaccination timelines, and the pandemic will leave a legacy of high debt, displaced workers, and lost trust. The distribution of vaccines will divide haves from have nots, both within and among nations, stoking anti-incumbent anger and public unrest in many countries. Some emerging markets will experience a debt crunch this year. With inflation and borrowing costs rising, they’ll have far less room than the US and Europe to cushion Covid’s economic blow.

#3 – Climate: net zero meets G-Zero

Climate policy will move from playground of global cooperation to arena of global competition. Across a range of clean technologies, China’s longstanding industrial policy approach will now face a much more aggressive climate push from Washington. Some parts of the clean energy supply chain will face bifurcation pressures like those seen in 5G. The push for net-zero emissions targets will create enormous opportunities for private capital, especially the growing pool of environmental, social, and governance dollars and euros, but winners and losers will be determined as often by political factors as by market forces.

#4 – US-China tensions broaden

A shared desire in Washington and Beijing for stability in US-China relations will briefly ease headline tensions, but intensifying vaccine diplomacy and climate and tech competition will combine with longstanding frictions in other areas to further complicate their rivalry. Disagreements over trade, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and the South China Sea will carry over into 2021. Collectively, these points of dispute will boost the risk of miscalculation and escalation toward crisis.

#5 – Global data reckoning

A slowdown or halt to the free flow of sensitive data across borders will raise costs for companies and disrupt popular apps and internet business models. This risk begins with the US and China, but it doesn’t end there. Even as the data-driven 5G and AI revolutions gain steam, other governments concerned about who is accessing their citizens’ data—and how—will erode the foundation of the open global internet. Business models for AI and other innovative tech sectors will suffer. App bans and other issues will hamper global cooperation on public health and climate challenges.

#6 – Cyber tipping point

There is no single factor that raises the risk of a major disaster in cyberspace in 2021. The digital realm, where any computer or smartphone can become an entry point for hackers and nation states, and criminals act with relative impunity, is too unpredictable for that. Instead, a combination of low-probability but high-impact risks and inexorable technology trends will make 2021 the year that cyber conflict creates unprecedented technological and geopolitical risk in cyberspace.

#7 – (Out in the) cold Turkey

Economic setbacks in 2021 and Turkey’s poor Covid response will leave President Recep Tayyip Erdogan struggling to win back voters disillusioned with his two-decade rule. These dynamics will stoke social tensions, prompt a crackdown against the opposition, and encourage Erdogan to launch more foreign policy adventures to fuel nationalism and distract his supporters. But this year, Turkey’s president won’t have international friends to shield him from the consequences.

#8 – Middle East – low oil takes a toll

Energy-producing countries in the Middle East and North Africa faced a collapse in global energy demand in 2020 that left governments from Algeria to Iran with less cash flowing into their coffers—even as the pandemic sickened citizens and weakened economies. 2021 will be worse, because energy prices will remain low. Many of these governments will cut spending, damaging vulnerable private sectors and fueling unemployment. Reforms will slow, and protests will grow.

#9 – Europe after Merkel

Angela Merkel’s departure later this year after 15 years as chancellor will drive the continent’s top risk in 2021. Europe faces an economic hangover from intensified lockdown restrictions in several countries, and Merkel won’t be there to encourage flexibility in the multilateral response. Without the German leader to serve as a strong and neutral negotiator, diplomatic efforts to resolve energy and territorial disputes in the Eastern Mediterranean will struggle, as will the UN process to address Cyprus issues. The EU position will become more hawkish as France pushes more member states to get tough with Turkey, raising the odds of diplomatic rupture.

#10 – Latin America disappoints

Governments in Latin America face intensified versions of the formidable political, social, and economic problems they were confronting before the pandemic. There will be no large-scale vaccinations until late in the year, and countries are poorly positioned to deal with another Covid wave before then. Political and economic pressures will intensify as Argentina and Mexico hold legislative elections in 2021, and voters in Chile, Ecuador, and Peru vote for president.

RED HERRINGS

Trump’s friends in trouble – Trump-friendly leaders such as Erdogan, Brazil’s Jair Bolsonaro, the UK’s Boris Johnson, and Israel’s Binyamin Netanyahu will engage with the new US president where they can.

Techlash in US – US lawmakers won’t declare war on the tech companies helping to restore post-pandemic growth.

Iran-US confrontation – Ties between the US and Iran will be neither as productive nor destructive as many fear.

Shanghai, China, May 26, 2020 /Xinwengao.com/ - ChinaPulse.com, the news aggregator for English-language news from China, reports an uptick in China-related topics that could illuminate the world’s interest in all-things Chinese.

Between April 15 and May 15, 2020 the site saw a month-on-month increase of 350% in searches related to the Chinese military. Specifically, searches for “Chinese army” and “Chinese PLA” popped up as more global news played up the ongoing disagreements between the United States and China. And interest in various Hong Kong-related searches increased by 60-75% as global news of the Special Administrative Region turned from the fight against COVID-19 to the restart of protests in Hong Kong.

Interest in the Chinese Yuan rose 5-8%, as more searches related to “currency”, “devaluation” and “central bank” were made during this time period. But searches related to Coronavirus and COVID-19 generally fell by 6-15%. The only related term that continued to rise was searches based on Wuhan-related news.

A new Book "Hidden In Plain Sight" by Michael Iannini explores the best ways for schools in the 21st century to improve student learning by strengthening their core.

In Michael Iannini’s new bestselling book “Hidden In Plain Sight: Realizing The Full Potential Of Middle Leaders”, he breaks open the doors for middle leaders to succeed by achieving a shared purpose that will improve student learning by raising the standard of teaching across the school.

“Working interdependently doesn’t happen because we label a team a learning community or administratively mandate professional learning with fixed schedules and objectives,” says Michael. “Getting teams to work interdependently requires empowered middle leaders. This book will help senior leaders empower middle leaders to take ownership of school change initiatives, by: understanding how to select middle leaders, differentiating expectations for middle leaders, and identifying the skills and knowledge middle leaders need to lead change. Middle leaders will learn how to advocate for themselves and their team, by understanding how their role changes as the team develops, establishing a clear purpose and goals, and harnessing conflict to innovate.”

“Hidden In Plain Sight” is a valuable learning tool for every educator. With a foreword written by ACAMIS’s Executive Director Tom Ulmet, this is a book that can improve middle leadership in any school. Go to www.pdacademia.com to read excerpts from the book and access video tutorials facilitated by Michael.
Michael Iannini is a Council of International Schools affiliated consultant with the following areas of expertise: Appraisal and professional development, Leadership training, School governance and Strategic planning. Michael also serves as the contracted PD Coordinator for the Association of China and Mongolia International Schools (ACAMIS). His journey in education began 24 years ago as a research assistant at Arizona State University’s Child Development Laboratory, where he honed his talent for developmental education. Since moving to China in 1999, Michael has advised the Boards and Senior Leadership of a number of Not-for-Profit Organizations, International Schools, and Chinese Bilingual schools on how to develop curriculum, train teachers, create parent engagement strategies, and devise staff capacity building strategies. His exhaustive efforts have helped nurture a long and mutually beneficial relationship with ACAMIS’ network of schools (www.acamis.org), where he has served as ACAMIS’s contracted PD Coordinator for over 8 years.

As a consultant, Michael’s main focus is helping schools engage with their community and improve student learning by improving collaboration and organizational management. His diverse work experience (which spans the United States, China and all of East and South East Asia) has given him the ability to satisfy the needs of diverse stakeholders, improve cross-cultural leadership skills and establish effective communication strategies.

Molex introduces a new micro-termination capability to be used in applications with tiny structural elements. The product is ideal for consumers in the medical, smart phone, and mobile device industries looking for detachable micro-terminations that can be used with ever-decreasing component sizes.

The automated and reliable micro-termination solutions work with Temp-Flex Micro-Ribbon Cables, in addition to wires down to 50 AWG. Normally, terminations for the 42 to 50 AWG range need to be hand-soldered permanently—but the Molex Micro-Termination Solution is truly a separable connection, eliminating the need for bulky soldering processes and the cost of new permanent terminations.

“As devices grow ever smaller, components necessarily shrink as well,” said Abe Hiroshi, Global Product Manager, Molex. “Terminating micro connectors and wires becomes increasingly challenging as a result. The Molex micro-termination method offers customers a true separable connection and huge space savings compared to what competitors currently offer.”

Three micro-termination capabilities are available: Interposer Flex to Micro FPC Connector, which offers distal end terminations and proximal ends; Board-to-Board on Interposer, utilizing a SlimStack Board-to-Board Interposer with two wire routing orientations; and Direct to ASIC, where a cable terminates directly on ASIC.

Compared to competing products on the market, the Molex micro-termination solutions offer batch processing, more termination configurations than just pin-to-barrel, and pitches down to 0.10mm.

Key enhancements includes launch of Epicor Dealer Network Portal and the availability of the Epicor Kinetic Design Framework

Epicor Software Corporation, a global provider of industry-specific enterprise software to promote business growth, today introduced Epicor Dealer Network Portal as part of its upcoming release of Epicor ERP 10.2.300.
In an increasingly digital world, dealers face the same rising customer expectations as retailers, driven by technology innovations and modern eCommerce. Sales and service dealers are under new pressure to meet higher customer expectations for easy self-service, personalized offers, rapid and convenient delivery, high quality, and transparency throughout the buying process.
The manufacturer-dealer business model offers significant opportunity for manufacturers to deliver products, services, and support that meets customers’ exact needs and specifications while expanding their market reach. Epicor Dealer Network Portal is specifically designed for manufacturers who sell or service their products through dealers, to more easily quote orders, manage sales, track inventories, manage warranties and recalls, and provides dealer self-service to their account history all from their ERP system. The solution enables customers to create a single, online website to automate and streamline their dealer activity.
“According to Forrester, direct-to-consumer (D2C) commerce is not a new approach to retail, but there is renewed interest for it among branded manufacturers ,” explained Vincent Tang, regional vice president, Asia, for Epicor. “Epicor can help manufacturers transform the dealer experience through a modern eCommerce interface that dramatically elevates their brands to accelerate business growth. Dealer Network Portal works seamlessly with Epicor ERP and eliminates the cost of manual interactions and duplicate data entry, reducing errors, and overall operational costs.”

Announcing the latest version of Epicor ERP
The latest version of Epicor ERP (10.2.300) is designed to help manufacturers differentiate their brand to stand out by being the first one that utilizes the Epicor Kinetic Design Framework, announced at Epicor Insights earlier this year. The Epicor Kinetic Design Framework is a design-focused, strategic initiative to improve the customer’s experience with our software applications. With the introduction of the enhanced Home Page developed in the Kinetic framework customers can create a personal layout and then switch it with another published layout or move from tab to tab for additional views, which support faster, more informed decisions through much greater visibility into their business at just a glance.
Additionally, to help customers take advantage of the new features, Epicor University is now offering a cloud hosting option for ERP application help, as well as education courses with help search being powered by Microsoft Azure. These are designed to help remove the burden from customers’ IT staff to maintain their own help or education environments. Contextual video help will also be available for several new functions of Epicor ERP, such as AP invoice entry, job entry, job tracker, purchase order entry, and customer maintenance.
Epicor ERP 10.2.300 is scheduled to be released and generally available on October 18. For more information, please visit the Epicor ERP homepage.
About Epicor Software Corporation
Epicor Software Corporation drives business growth. We provide flexible, industry-specific software designed to fit the precise needs of our manufacturing, distribution, retail, and service industry customers. More than 45 years of experience with our customers’ unique business processes and operational requirements are built into every solution#8213;in the cloud or on premises.
T#220;V Rheinland, a leading international testing service provider for quality and safety, today announced results from a global survey designed to assess consumer perception of safety of autonomous vehicles in different regions. The survey, conducted among more than 1,000 licensed drivers aged 18 years and above each in China, Germany, and the United States, reveals that trust in technology of completely autonomous cars is nearly twice as high in China as the other two countries. More than 63 percent of respondents in China believe driverless cars will increase road safety, while the figure is 34 percent in the United States and Germany.

Respondents were equal in the degree of importance placed on data protection and desire for assurances that autonomous vehicles will be protected against cyberattacks. Drivers the world over also wish to be able to decide for themselves when to let a car drive autonomously, and when to control it themselves.

Respondents convinced that automated driving increases overall road safety

While respondents generally agree that automation of driving will improve road safety, again we see a higher proportion of respondents believe this in China than in Germany and the USA. Interestingly, however, people’s doubts tend to increase and trust in the technology decreases as vehicles’ level of automation goes up. Only 11 percent of the respondents in Germany and 15 percent in the USA state they fear ‘a deterioration of road safety’ due to partial automation, while nearly half of those same respondents believe that road safety will deteriorate with the advent of completely driverless cars. In China, only 24 percent expect road safety to decrease in the case of driverless cars.

“When we see large swaths of motorists in China, Germany, and the USA share a belief that road safety will decrease as automation increases, it tells us we must give people much more information and communicate the benefits of autonomous technology more clearly,” said Dr. Matthias Schubert, executive vice president of mobility at T#220;V Rheinland.

The results of the international study echo the same trends shown in a similar T#220;V Rheinland survey from Spring, 2017 on the acceptance of autonomous driving in Germany. This study revealed that 75 percent of respondents generally view autonomous vehicle technology positively but, when looked at in detail, there are still many reservations about the technical implementation.

In the current study, 78 percent of all global respondents agree that it must be possible for a person to take full control of the vehicle at any time in the event of an emergency – this opinion is stronger in Germany and the USA than in China.

Cyberprotection leading indicator of trust in technology

Fear of cybercrime around autonomous vehicles is widespread among global motorists – especially in Germany. A full 76 percent of respondents in Germany believe that personal data can fall into unauthorized hands when using autonomous vehicles. The United States and China stand at 67 percent and 63 percent, respectively. In all three countries, respondents fear to an equal extent that autonomous cars could lead to increased vehicle crime due to people accessing the vehicles via technical means and data theft. This opinion was somewhat more prevalent in the USA, with 52 percent of respondents in agreement.

A majority of respondents think the systems of future cars should be updated regularly and automatically to ensure road safety and protection against cyberattacks. In China, 80 percent of respondents support “over-the-air updates;” the figure is 68 percent in the United States, and 64 percent in Germany.

Notably, in all three countries cyberprotection is so important that the majority of respondents (Germany 66 percent, USA 61 percent, China 60 percent) would change to a different make of car if hacker attacks were to come to light. On this topic, consumers in China are more likely to trust the competence of the manufacturers to develop autonomous vehicles that are protected against unauthorized access (71 percent). In Germany, the sentiment tends to be positive (55 percent), an opinion that has risen significantly compared to the survey from Spring, 2017. At that time, only 47 percent of German respondents held this faith. Americans show the least confidence in automobile manufacturers to build autonomous vehicles that are protected against cybercrime, at just 41 percent.

Data collection just as necessary as data protection
Most motorists today are aware that data in modern vehicles is recorded and transmitted to automobile manufacturers. This includes data on the state of the vehicle (e.g., mileage, error messages) as well as vehicle movement data (e.g., speed, position) or person-specific data, such as style of driving or seat adjustment settings. Just how well-informed do people believe they are on this matter? Very large differences show up here across the three countries: 55 percent of respondents in the United States say that they are rather poorly informed about which data is used for which purpose, who has access to the data, and how well-protected the data is. This is also the case for 52 percent of respondents in Germany. In China, however, only 15 percent of respondents believe they are poorly informed.

For all respondents, safety is a primary motivation for sharing data. Between 30 percent and 50 percent of motorists in all three countries state a specific desire to make their data available for breakdown assistance services, car insurance companies, testing organizations, automobile manufacturers, and state institutions. However, motorists are less willing to transmit their data to service and mobility providers, particular data app providers, automotive suppliers, automobile dealers, and infrastructure operators such as gas stations.

Finally, 71 percent of the Chinese respondents demonstrate a greater inclination (Germany 45 percent, USA 42 percent) to pass on their data for updating and using new services (e.g., for telematics services such as parking space finders).

Politicians and industry executives need to do their homework

The survey brings to light motorist perceptions that may impair the acceptance of autonomous vehicles and pose significant barriers to widespread adoption. To eliminate these kinds of obstacles, politicians and industry executives, in particular, need to do their homework. In Germany, more than half (53 percent) of survey participants believe it is most important for the driver to always be able to take full control of the vehicle. Furthermore, 49 percent feel the need for legal situations to be clarified further (e.g., questions of liability), and 37 percent want data protection to be ensured through a corresponding framework. For respondents in the United States, having a permanent option for the driver to take full control of the vehicle is also the top priority (47 percent). Proof of functional safety through tests comes a close second (45 percent). Following in third place is the protection of the car against unauthorized access (43 percent). For Chinese respondents, backup of personal data is the most important (43 percent), even more so than ensuring data protection (40 percent) and protection of the vehicle against unauthorized access (36 percent).

The survey on the safety of autonomous vehicles by T#220;V Rheinland in the context of autonomous driving was conducted in September 2017 via an online panel. For the study, T#220;V Rheinland polled a representative sample of around 1,000 each from China, Germany, and the Unites States aged 18 years and over and in possession of a driver’s license. It is the second study of this kind by T#220;V Rheinland; in Spring 2017, the company carried out a study on the acceptance of autonomous vehicles in Germany.
