Hong Kong, China, March 31, 2022 /Xinwengao.com/ - The first book launch event inside the metaverse will be held with the official launch of Nina Xiang’s new book Parallel Metaverses, who is the founder of China Money Network. The virtual event will be held inside Decentraland, one of the most popular decentralized metaverse platforms in the world.

As the metaverse becomes widely accepted as the next chapter of the internet, companies have embraced the concept by holding product launch events, fashion shows and developer conferences inside the metaverse. Nina Xiang’s book launch event will be the first book launch event to be held inside the metaverse, featuring a virtual author meet up, giveaways of Proof Of Attendance Protocol (POAP) tokens, and a lucky draw to win free copies of the book.

“This will definitely be a different book launch event than what I’ve done in the past when I sat behind a desk and signed books for readers,” says Nina Xiang. “Three years into the Covid pandemic, authors need to find new ways to connect with readers. I’m excited to meet everyone inside a lovely comfy parcel on Decentraland for a brand new experience that will probably redefine future book events in our 3D virtual world future.”

Proof Of Attendance Protocol (POAP) tokens are tokens on the Gnosis Chain (formerly xDai) Ethereum side-chain that serve as evidence of having been to an event. These tokens have become popular in Decentraland events and more players are interested in collecting POAP tokens.

The new book, Parallel Metaverses: How the US, China and the Rest of the World Are Shaping Different Virtual Worlds, written by award-winning journalist and author Nina Xiang, launches today online with both e-book and paperback versions available on Amazon.com.

Readers can order the book now at this link: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09RN764WF

The official book launch will be accompanied by a virtual book launch event taking place inside Decentraland at 9am-10am, Hong Kong time, on April 3, 2022. Nina Xiang – as an avatar – will interact with participants and answer audience questions. Participants will receive their unique POAP token, and have a chance to win free copies of the book.

Everyone is welcome to join at this link: https://events.decentraland.org/event/?id=47640abf-3912-4081-b4f1-5b881155a6e7

Readers can visit as guests or set up their own accounts on Decentraland. Then it’s as simple as clicking the link to be teleported to the virtual land where the event is taking place. The time and date is Hong Kong time, so readers in other locations should convert the time to their local time to participate. Please plan to first spend about 30 minutes to setup avatars and to get logged into Decentraland before the event’s starting time.

Parallel Metaverses is the first attempt to examine how the U.S., China, Europe, South Korea, Japan and other global technology hotspots are building their respective metaverses. The book reviews what major tech companies, including Meta (Facebook), Microsoft, Apple, Google, Tencent, ByteDance, Alibaba, Baidu, Huawei, Samsung, Sony and Nvidia, are doing to construct their versions of the future 3D internet.

The book looks into major metaverse technologies including AR, VR, MR (XR) hardware, game engines, virtual human, blockchain, and their respective competitive landscape. Finally, Xiang provides insights on the business opportunities of the metaverse, along with the risks and challenges.

“There will be many metaverses existing in parallel, and the future virtual worlds will ride on the existing rails of the internet,” says Nina Xiang. “Games will be the starter and the main course of the metaverse banquet, while the blockchain-based metaverse is going to play a marginal or minor role. Ultimately, the metaverse will likely mirror the messy and chaotic nature of our physical world.”

The book provides readers a comprehensive and deep dive into how the metaverse will likely be shaped across the globe. Business leaders, company executives, entrepreneurs, investors and career professionals can then use this knowledge to become better equipped to formulate their development strategies, find growth opportunities, and seek investments for their own organizations as the next chapter of the internet unfolds.

The book is released ahead of its previously announced schedule of a May 3, 2022 release date.

The book dives into the history of China’s technology development with a focus on the semiconductors industry, and illustrates how this saga of innovation shapes current and future tech clashes between the United States and China.

“Everyone is talking about the U.S.-China tech war, but few tried to understand it from a perspective of history,” says Nina Xiang, author of the book. “I wrote this book so that readers can understand how the U.S. and China arrived at their current positions.”

Despite decades of government-led efforts to boost its semiconductor chips industry, China has lagged far behind other countries, and the nation is vulnerable to U.S. trade blockades. US-China Tech War focuses on the semiconductor chip industry, the epicenter of the current US-China tech rivalry.

The book dispels key myths about how China progressed technologically: the whole-nation model, forced technology transfer, and China’s efforts to stimulate home-grown tech. The book’s deeper analysis into these hyped terms reveals a new angle for China’s innovation journey that will surprise readers.

“The U.S.-China tech war is not one started with a manifesto from either side or with one defining moment; it’s better defined as a war with sporadic barrages and unpredictable battles overlaying a steady hum of preparation,” says Nina Xiang. “Some frontlines have already been drawn, especially in regards to semiconductors, 5G, and artificial intelligence. These areas are seeing deepening decoupling between the two countries that is tearing apart decades of globalized supply chains.”

The book is currently available on promotion in e-book and paperback formats:
The Mi 11 is the first smartphone with the Qualcom Snapdragon 888 5G processor, has a Gorilla Glass 6.81″ AMOLED screen with 1440p resolution, plus a large 4,600 mAhr battery. Using the GaNFast 55W, the Mi 11 charges from 0-100% in only 45 minutes, half the time of competitor flagships, and is also highly compact at half the size of typical silicon-based chargers.

Gallium nitride (GaN) is a next-generation semiconductor technology that runs up to 20x faster than old, slow silicon (Si), and enables up to 3x more power or 3x faster charging in half the size & weight. GaNFast power ICs integrate GaN power and drive plus protection and control to deliver the simplest, smallest, fastest and now even higher-power performance. The Xiaomi 55W fast charger uses an NV6115 GaNFast power IC in a high-frequency quasi-resonant (HQFR) flyback converter with the On Semiconductor NCP1342 controller at 200kHz to enable a slimline, planar transformer with shrunk core, plus smaller EMI filter and output capacitors.

“One of the best things about the 55W GaN charger is that it’s capable of charging more of your gear, including laptops, gaming consoles and smartphones”, said Mr Shou Zi CHEW (周受资), Partner, Senior Vice President and President of International, Xiaomi Corporation in the Mi 11 launch video. “We believe this is truly a world-class charging experience,” he added.

“Following the Mi 10 accessory GaNFast charger in February 2020 and the excitement over our ‘Little Star’ GaN twins at the Xiaomi Technology & Investment Day in October, we are now very excited to go global with Xiaomi with the Mi 11 55W ‘in-box’ GaNFast charger, now with the European 2-pin AC op-tion,” said Gene SHERIDAN, Navitas CEO and co-founder. “This is a major commitment to mainstream adoption of gallium nitride technology and the beginning of the end for the old, slow silicon chip,” he added.

#1 risk for 2021: 46*—Biden’s election heralds era in which half of America’s voters view every new president as illegitimate.

New York, USA, January 12, 2021 /Xinwengao.com/ - As we begin 2021, the United States is the most powerful, politically divided, and economically unequal of the world’s industrial democracies. China is America’s strongest competitor, a state capitalist, authoritarian, and techno-surveillance state that is increasingly mistrusted by most G20 countries. Germany and Japan are much more stable, but the most powerful leaders both nations have had in decades are out (former Japanese Prime Minister Abe Shinzo) or on their way out (German Chancellor Angela Merkel). Russia is in decline and blames the US and the West for its woes.

Even as the world grapples with its worst crisis since World War II, some risks are more potent, deadly, and likely to change the course of world politics. These are Eurasia Group’s Top Risks for 2021, the firm’s annual prediction of the ten greatest threats to the trajectories of nations, global politics, industries and institutions. Unveiled each January, Top Risks helps investors, companies and the public anticipate and respond to opportunities wherever they invest or do business. The report is co-written by Eurasia Group President Ian Bremmer and Chairman Cliff Kupchan.

The #1 risk for 2021 is “46*”—the opening of an era in which the occupant of the White House is viewed as illegitimate by roughly half the country. Donald Trump’s refusal to accept the outcome of an election that he declares was stolen is unique in American history, underscoring how divided America has become—and will remain.

“A superpower torn down the middle cannot return to business as usual,” write Bremmer and Kupchan. “And when the world’s most powerful country is so divided, everybody has a problem. The geopolitical recession—and our G-Zero world—will deepen as a result.”

Bremmer and Kupchan go on to argue that the strength of Trump’s base and political divisions in the US will force allies to consider the possibility that any commitments made by the incoming Biden administration could be overturned in four years with the election of another “America First” president.

Other Top Risks in the report include the ongoing impact of the coronavirus pandemic, climate change, the US-China conflict, data and cybersecurity, and distinct threats facing Turkey, the Middle East, Europe, and Latin America. The report also includes several “red herrings”—issues that, despite media attention, are unlikely to pose significant threats or drive instability in the coming year.

Top Risks has an impressive track record for being both early and accurate in its predictions. Eurasia Group’s 2020 Top Risks report, for example, correctly predicted a contested US election as its #1 risk.

Bremmer and Kupchan will host an on-the-record press conference call today, 4 January, at 10:30 a.m. EST/15:30 GMT to discuss the risks and take questions. To participate, please register here.

Below is a summary of all ten Top Risks for 2021. Please click here for the full report.

TOP RISKS 2021

When the world’s most powerful country is as divided as the United States is now, the G-Zero geopolitical recession is sure to deepen. The world needs the leadership and cooperation that an engaged and well-functioning superpower can help provide, because, just as the healthcare response to the coronavirus pandemic defined 2020, the economic response to its lasting damage will define 2021.

#1 – 46*

Following a 2016 Trump victory that many Democrats believe Russia helped him win, Biden’s term opens the era of the asterisk presidency, a time when every Oval Office occupant is seen as illegitimate by roughly half the country—and the lawmakers that election skeptics send to Congress. Most of the risk here is domestic, but the consequences of extreme polarization for democratic legitimacy extend well beyond US borders. Apart from a shared desire to contain China, Republicans and Democrats will disagree sharply—with each other and among themselves—over the objectives of US foreign policy. In addition, the size of Trump’s base, and the broadening of that base to include more minority voters, leaves allies and potential partners wondering whether the next “America First” president and foreign policy are just four years away.

#2 – Long Covid

In 2021, the lingering symptoms of Covid-19 will threaten not just lives but political stability and the global economy. Countries around the world will struggle to meet ambitious vaccination timelines, and the pandemic will leave a legacy of high debt, displaced workers, and lost trust. The distribution of vaccines will divide haves from have nots, both within and among nations, stoking anti-incumbent anger and public unrest in many countries. Some emerging markets will experience a debt crunch this year. With inflation and borrowing costs rising, they’ll have far less room than the US and Europe to cushion Covid’s economic blow.

#3 – Climate: net zero meets G-Zero

Climate policy will move from playground of global cooperation to arena of global competition. Across a range of clean technologies, China’s longstanding industrial policy approach will now face a much more aggressive climate push from Washington. Some parts of the clean energy supply chain will face bifurcation pressures like those seen in 5G. The push for net-zero emissions targets will create enormous opportunities for private capital, especially the growing pool of environmental, social, and governance dollars and euros, but winners and losers will be determined as often by political factors as by market forces.

#4 – US-China tensions broaden

A shared desire in Washington and Beijing for stability in US-China relations will briefly ease headline tensions, but intensifying vaccine diplomacy and climate and tech competition will combine with longstanding frictions in other areas to further complicate their rivalry. Disagreements over trade, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and the South China Sea will carry over into 2021. Collectively, these points of dispute will boost the risk of miscalculation and escalation toward crisis.

#5 – Global data reckoning

A slowdown or halt to the free flow of sensitive data across borders will raise costs for companies and disrupt popular apps and internet business models. This risk begins with the US and China, but it doesn’t end there. Even as the data-driven 5G and AI revolutions gain steam, other governments concerned about who is accessing their citizens’ data—and how—will erode the foundation of the open global internet. Business models for AI and other innovative tech sectors will suffer. App bans and other issues will hamper global cooperation on public health and climate challenges.

#6 – Cyber tipping point

There is no single factor that raises the risk of a major disaster in cyberspace in 2021. The digital realm, where any computer or smartphone can become an entry point for hackers and nation states, and criminals act with relative impunity, is too unpredictable for that. Instead, a combination of low-probability but high-impact risks and inexorable technology trends will make 2021 the year that cyber conflict creates unprecedented technological and geopolitical risk in cyberspace.

#7 – (Out in the) cold Turkey

Economic setbacks in 2021 and Turkey’s poor Covid response will leave President Recep Tayyip Erdogan struggling to win back voters disillusioned with his two-decade rule. These dynamics will stoke social tensions, prompt a crackdown against the opposition, and encourage Erdogan to launch more foreign policy adventures to fuel nationalism and distract his supporters. But this year, Turkey’s president won’t have international friends to shield him from the consequences.

#8 – Middle East – low oil takes a toll

Energy-producing countries in the Middle East and North Africa faced a collapse in global energy demand in 2020 that left governments from Algeria to Iran with less cash flowing into their coffers—even as the pandemic sickened citizens and weakened economies. 2021 will be worse, because energy prices will remain low. Many of these governments will cut spending, damaging vulnerable private sectors and fueling unemployment. Reforms will slow, and protests will grow.

#9 – Europe after Merkel

Angela Merkel’s departure later this year after 15 years as chancellor will drive the continent’s top risk in 2021. Europe faces an economic hangover from intensified lockdown restrictions in several countries, and Merkel won’t be there to encourage flexibility in the multilateral response. Without the German leader to serve as a strong and neutral negotiator, diplomatic efforts to resolve energy and territorial disputes in the Eastern Mediterranean will struggle, as will the UN process to address Cyprus issues. The EU position will become more hawkish as France pushes more member states to get tough with Turkey, raising the odds of diplomatic rupture.

#10 – Latin America disappoints

Governments in Latin America face intensified versions of the formidable political, social, and economic problems they were confronting before the pandemic. There will be no large-scale vaccinations until late in the year, and countries are poorly positioned to deal with another Covid wave before then. Political and economic pressures will intensify as Argentina and Mexico hold legislative elections in 2021, and voters in Chile, Ecuador, and Peru vote for president.

RED HERRINGS

Trump’s friends in trouble – Trump-friendly leaders such as Erdogan, Brazil’s Jair Bolsonaro, the UK’s Boris Johnson, and Israel’s Binyamin Netanyahu will engage with the new US president where they can.

Techlash in US – US lawmakers won’t declare war on the tech companies helping to restore post-pandemic growth.

Iran-US confrontation – Ties between the US and Iran will be neither as productive nor destructive as many fear.

Hong Kong, China, December 16, 2020 /Xinwengao.com/ - The research project was led by PolyU scholars Dr Lu YU, Associate Professor at the Department of Applied Social Sciences; and Professor Daniel T. L. SHEK, Interim Vice-President (Research and Innovation), Associate Vice President (Undergraduate Programme), Chair Professor of Applied Social Sciences and Li and Fung Professor in Service Leadership Education. The study also had two co-investigators: Dr Shengquan YE of City University of Hong Kong and Dr Mingyue GU of Education University of Hong Kong. Based on a pre- and post-test mixed method design, the study investigated the impact of three major types of short-term study-in-China programmes, including cultural tour programmes, summer term programmes, and service learning programmes, on Hong Kong local university students’ development. A total of 380 local students from eight universities in Hong Kong who are in years one to four of their studies and have participated in various short-term study-in-China programmes in the academic year of 2018/19, took part in the survey before and after joining the programmes. Among this batch of students, over 60% have never lived in the Mainland. The self-reported questionnaire measured students’ intercultural competence, perceptions and attitudes about Mainland China and its people; students’ identification with the Nation; and finally their national identity. Furthermore, individual interviews were conducted with 42 students and 16 programme staff to gain an in-depth understanding of their experiences and opinions about the programmes.

Based on the major findings of the study, the research team concluded that despite the relatively short duration of 1-8 weeks staying in Mainland China, the intercultural competence of the participating students increased and they reported more positive attitudes and views toward Mainland China and Chinese people, along with increased identification with the Nation after completing the programmes. Moreover, students with strong internal motivations, proactive learning attitudes, and high openness to new experiences were found to benefit the most from the learning experiences. In addition, having supportive peers, responsible and competent teachers, and high-quality programmes facilitated students’ effective learning.

Professor Daniel SHEK, the leader of the research, said, “The Government has always been supportive of Mainland study programmes that enable young people to gain a better understanding of our country’s development, to learn and broaden their cultural horizons and enhance their sense of belonging. Over the years, PolyU has organised a wide range of Mainland learning programmes with nearly 1,000 students participating each year. However, no systematic evaluation of the effectiveness and impact of the programmes has been conducted in the past, and this study provides an excellent opportunity for us to conduct an in-depth review and make recommendations on policies to enhance the depth and breadth of future programmes.”

Dr Lu YU, who co-led the research with Professor SHEK, added, “It is hoped that the survey will affirm the positive impact of study-in-China programmes on participating students, and the way in which they help enhance young people’s national identity, resulting in a win-win situation for both the Nation and the participants.” She hopes that the study will provide more inspiration for all parties to improve the content and format of short-term study-in-China programmes.

In response to the findings of the study, the research team has made a number of policy recommendations, including integrating relevant programmes into the undergraduate curriculum, allocating extra resources to support the programmes, establishing a resource-sharing platform and providing training for programme leaders, with a view to enhancing the quality and quantity of the programmes in a comprehensive way.

Major Findings of the Study

1) Students reported higher levels of intercultural competence in terms of both intercultural effectiveness and intercultural communication awareness after completion of the programmes (including cultural exchange, summer school and service learning programmes). The impact was significant for all three types of programme.

2) Participants showed more positive perceptions about Mainland China and more positive attitudes toward its people after joining the programmes. Both summer term and service learning programmes had a significant and positive impact on students’ development in this area.

3) The programmes promoted students’ identification with the identity of a Chinese citizen, the perceived importance of the identity of a Chinese citizen and as a member of the Chinese race, as well as the perceived strengths of all four types of identities (as a Hong Kong citizen, a Chinese citizen, a citizen of the PRC, and a member of the Chinese race).

4) More improvement in intercultural communication awareness was observed in students with prior experiences in joining such programmes and those with higher expectations about the programmes enhancing this developmental outcome.

5) A higher parental educational level was associated with more positive changes of students’ perceptions about Mainland China, less increase in their self-identification as a Hong Kong citizen, and in their perceived strength and importance of this identity.

6) Students with no prior experiences in any short-term study-in-China programmes showed more positive changes in their identity as a citizen of the PRC, and their perceived strength and importance of this identity than those who had joined such programmes before.

7) At the personal level, strong internal motivation, positive and proactive attitudes toward the programmes, and openness to new experiences were identified as critical factors contributing to students’ learning gains from the programmes.

8) At the programme level, highly motivational peers, responsible and knowledgeable teachers, and high programme quality (with clear objectives, carefully-designed activities and appropriate schedules) were perceived as facilitators to students’ effective learning gains.

Policy recommendations proposed by the research team:

– Further promote short-term study-in-China programmes by allocating extra resources, setting up specific funds, strengthening collaboration with Mainland China and integrating relevant programmes into the undergraduate curriculum. Instead of a mandatory requirement, students should be strongly encouraged to join in a voluntary manner.

– Promote the integration of short-term study-in-China experiences into undergraduate studies and strengthen the service learning element in the undergraduate curriculum.

– Identify and introduce high-quality programmes as examples of best practices and foster information exchange among universities through a common platform.

– Enhance students’ motivation through orientation workshops, student leader schemes and team-building activities.

– Build up the capacity of programme leaders through systematic training and evaluation.

– Build up positive public perceptions of study-in-China programme experience by disseminating publicity materials and creating opportunities for participants to share their experiences to the public.

– Utilise the positive influence of the media to promote Chinese culture to the general public and enhance their direct exposure to Mainland society through service/voluntary opportunities.

– Support long-term research projects to evaluate and document the long-term impact of study-in-China programme experiences.

In support of the Nation’s first lunar sample return mission, a research team at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) developed and manufactured one of the key systems for this historic undertaking, namely the “Surface Sampling and Packing System”, in collaboration with the China Academy of Space Technology. The PolyU-developed system accomplished the tasks of automatic sample collection and packaging on the lunar surface following the soft landing of the Chang’e 5 probe on 1 December 2020. The vehicle carrying the samples is currently on course back to Earth, and is expected to touch down in China’s Inner Mongolia region next week.

Hong Kong, China, December 13, 2020 /Xinwengao.com/ - Chang’e-5 is the world’s first lunar-sample return mission in more than 40 years, aiming to bring back a large amount of lunar samples of up to two kilograms via robotic means. The probe adopts two methods of moon surface sampling: one uses a robotic arm for multiple-point surface sample collections, and the other is to drill underground. The team led by Professor YUNG Kai-leung, Sir Sze-yuen Chung Professor in Precision Engineering, Chair Professor of Precision Engineering and Associate Head of Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering, PolyU, was tasked in 2011 to develop the “Surface Sampling and Packing System”, a comprehensive system for lunar surface sampling, packaging and sealing.

Dr LAM Tai-fai, Chairman of Council, PolyU, remarked, “The collection of lunar samples is a landmark occasion in the history of our Nation’s space exploration programme. It is a great testament to our University’s cutting-edge research capability that PolyU was the only tertiary institution in Hong Kong to contribute to the Chang’e 5 mission. Furthermore, the fact that Hong Kong-based scientists at PolyU developed some of the most critical components for the project is a fantastic accomplishment for the whole city, proving that Hong Kong can play an important role in supporting our Nation in making significant strides in the fields of space exploration and science.”

Mr Alfred SIT, Secretary for Innovation and Technology of the HKSAR Government, said, “Over the years, PolyU has actively participated in our Nation’s space exploration projects by developing highly sophisticated space instruments for our country. In the Chang’e 5 lunar exploration project, PolyU fully demonstrated its rich experience accumulated in national and international space projects, its cutting-edge technology as well as its innovative thinking. PolyU’s efforts in research are in line with and complementary to the Government’s goal of developing Hong Kong into an international innovation and technology hub.”

Professor Jin-Guang TENG, PolyU President, said, “The Chang’e 5 lunar mission has been watched closely by the entire world, since it will help the scientific community uncover some of the Moon’s secrets and mysteries. I am immensely proud that PolyU researchers developed the pioneering ‘Surface Sampling and Packing System’ to facilitate the success of this milestone mission. By contributing to such a sophisticated national space project, the University has demonstrated its substantial research competence and commitment to producing breakthrough solutions that push forward the frontiers of technology and science. PolyU will continue to devote itself to the pursuit of research excellence and the creation of innovations that benefit Hong Kong, the Nation and our world.”

Professor Yung expressed the pride he and his team felt to be part of this ground-breaking accomplishment. He said, “Collecting a large amount of lunar samples via robotic means was unprecedented. From research, through design to manufacturing, the development of this system has required a very high level of innovation, precision and reliability. A small glitch anywhere in the complex chain of necessary tasks could have instantly negated all the costly efforts made by those involved in the mission. Thanks to the support of the Nation, the University and the experts at PolyU Industrial Centre, we were able to produce this cutting-edge space-qualified instrument that has successfully acquired samples from the lunar surface. We are indebted to the Nation in entrusting such a critical responsibility to PolyU.”

Consisting of two samplers for collecting loose and sticky forms of lunar regolith, two near-field cameras, as well as a packaging and sealing system, the “Surface Sampling and Packing System” has more than 400 components constructed in different materials including titanium alloy, aluminum alloy and stainless steel, which make the instruments light in weight but at the same time durable and strong enough to withstand the harsh space environment.

Talking about the challenges of the project, Professor Yung said, “As our system needed to operate on the sun-facing side of the Moon where the ground temperatures could be as high as 110 degree Celsius, this innovation had to be highly sophisticated and capable of functioning under extremely high temperatures. It also needed to withstand the extreme space environment during travel to and landing on the Moon which meant enduring impact and shock during lift-offs and landings, high vacuum on the moon, exposure to solar wind and cosmic rays, as well as high-speed re-entry to Earth’s atmosphere.”

“To meet the limited payload requirement, we had to be innovative in our mechanism design and be stringent in weight control. For example, the two samplers are more than a tool to acquire lunar regolith. They are also used to pick up and move the sample container from the lander to the ascender atop,” Professor Yung continued.

Features of the Surface Sampling and Packing System:

Sampler A – Around 35 cm in length, Sampler A, in the shape of a shovel, is specifically engineered for collecting loose regolith. The vibration and impact during the closing of the sampler is an elaborate design to dislodge excessive debris, chisel away large pieces of regolith, tightly enclose the samples and precisely deposit the selected samples into the container without contaminating the surrounding.

Sampler B – Around 30 cm in length, Sampler B is used for collecting sticky samples by coring into the ground with teeth-like metal flaps when opened. It captures the targeted samples through the closing of these metal flaps. The piston inside the sampler pushes the sticky samples into the container during depositing of the sample when the flaps gradually open.

Near-field Cameras – Heat resistant up to 130 degree Celsius, a near-field camera is attached to each sampler. This camera provides a monitoring and vision guidance function to help select scientifically valuable lunar samples. The vision guidance function also enables the sampler to deposit the samples into the container, grip the container and transfer it into the ascender precisely.

Sealing and Packaging System – Weighing 1.5 kilograms, of which the sample container weighs only 360 grams and is used to seal and store the lunar samples for retuning to Earth, this system includes deployment of a funnel to protect the sample container from contamination when the lunar regolith is deposited and a sweeping action to brush away excessive sample to ensure the container lid can be closed properly.

Being the only tertiary institution in Hong Kong that possesses international deep space qualification experience, PolyU has been contributing to the Nation’s space projects since 2010. As part of the Nation’s lunar exploration programme, Professor Yung collaborated with the China Academy of Space Technology to develop a “Camera Pointing System” for Chang’e 3 in 2013 and for Chang’e 4’s historic landing on the lunar far side in 2019, and a Mars Camera for Tianwen 1 in 2020. The “Surface Sampling and Packing System” will be used for the Chang’e 6 mission as well.

PolyU has actively participated in other space exploration projects, designing and manufacturing a number of sophisticated space tools in the past decade. These include the “Mars Rock Corer” for the European Space Agency’s 2003 Mars Express Mission and the “Soil Preparation System” for the Sino-Russian Space Mission in 2011.

“When we created CharityInChina.org in 2005, we wanted to solve a critical problem that especially foreign-based organizations had in raising funds and gaining volunteers in China,” says Danny Levinson, founder of CharityInChina.org and a technology company executive. “We found a strong desire by both foreign companies with a good eye towards corporate social responsibility and solo expatriates within China to seek out volunteer and donor opportunities with NGOs in China, and we found a strong need by especially foreign-based organizations operating in China to find stakeholders in China to assist them in their respective missions. After 15 years, we’re proud of the connections we continue to make.”

The ways nonprofit organizations and charities are registered and certified in China is different from in the West and in other locations in Asia, and this has often caused problems for organizations from outside of China when they either desire to raise funds in China or wholeheartedly undertake critical programs. China’s Charity Law in 2016 followed by the Overseas NGO Law in 2017 affect how they organize as non-profit organizations in Mainland China, and this differs from how they organize themselves in their home countries or even in the Special Administrative Region of Hong Kong. For example, for many international organizations, they must find local Chinese charities or public interest groups to act as partners instead of undertaking activities on their own.

CharityInChina.org is not a charity or NGO. To utilize CharityInChina.org’s resources, an organization registers on the website and provides information about what they do, where they do it, and what they need. The company is then matched to individuals, who tell CharityInChina.org if they wish to donate time or donate funds; in which type of organizations they would like to participate; and their geographic preferences within Greater China.

Then CharityInChina.org simply emails the individual when an appropriate matching opportunity arrives from an organization. Some active individuals are emailed once a month, while others less often — it’s all based on the match algorithm.

California, USA, November 9, 2020 /Xinwengao.com/ - Pony.ai, an autonomous driving company, today announces a new investment round led by Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan Board’s (Ontario Teachers’) Teachers’ Innovation Platform (TIP). TIP focuses on late-stage venture and growth equity investments in companies that deliver disruptive technology.

The initial US$267 million close on this round also had participation from existing partners Fidelity China Special Situations PLC, 5Y Capital (formerly Morningside Venture Capital), Clearvue Partners, and Eight Roads, among others, bringing the company’s accumulated capital raised to over US$1.0 billion and post-money valuation to over US$5.3 billion.

“Pony.ai is approaching its mission of delivering autonomous mobility everywhere by building technology that allows vehicles to drive safely on public roads,” said Pony.ai CEO James Peng. “With new investments that support our growth and deepened partnerships with our existing investors, we are quickly advancing toward future mobility and bringing autonomous vehicle technology to the global market.”

“We see a significant global opportunity for autonomous vehicle technology,” said Olivia Steedman, Senior Managing Director, TIP, at Ontario Teachers’. “Pony.ai’s leading technology and deep, strategic understanding of the sector have helped to position the company as a leader in this space.”

“This is a milestone investment for our global TIP team,” said Ben Chan, Regional Managing Director, Asia Pacific, at Ontario Teachers’. “We are very excited to be part of Pony.ai’s growth story across the globe.”

Since its establishment in December 2016, Pony.ai has been committed to revolutionizing the future of transportation by building safe and reliable solutions for autonomous mobility. The company partners with top global original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to standardize and commercialize autonomous technology.

Pony.ai has been offering its Robotaxi services to the general public in major cities across the U.S. and China, serving thousands of riders – and covering more than 3.5 million kilometers autonomously – since 2018. Pony.ai is also working closely with OEMs, tier-ones, and logistic companies to develop robotruck solutions targeting the long-haul logistics market.

“We are honored to welcome new partners to join our mission of delivering autonomous mobility on a global scale by building safe and reliable self-driving vehicle technology,” added Mr. Peng.

About Pony.ai

Founded in late 2016, Pony.ai has been a pioneer in autonomous mobility technologies and services across the U.S. and China, spearheading public-facing Robotaxi pilots in both markets. With MediaIntel.Asia’s slogan of “Be Smarter”, subscribers gain crucial intelligence for conducting business across Asia-Pacific.

News Briefs are daily executive briefings delivered by email to subscribers. Each MediaIntel.Asia News Brief contains top news and media insights in particular business sectors. This express service provides a curated list of Asia media intelligence across industries like technology, insurance, manufacturing, tourism, finance, and retail. After launching services for mainland China, MediaIntel.Asia now has opened three different industry sector News Briefs for Singapore covering technology, tourism, and finance.

“We have built the MediaIntel.Asia platform on top of two decades of experience in media intelligence and media monitoring,” says Paul Doyle, director at MediaIntel.Asia’s parent Asia Media Network. “Our ChinaPulse.com platform began 20 years ago, and the insights gained in sentiment analysis, artificial intelligence, data monitoring, and news syndication have created the backbone for the launch of MediaIntel.Asia’s expanded services across Asia. Be smarter with your own subscription!”

In addition to the daily News Briefs, subscribers can login anytime to the MediaIntel.Asia platform to view and search thousands of daily news articles from global media. And for each news article, MediaIntel.Asia has rolled out its new “News Timeline” feature. With the News Timeline, each and every news post on the platform can be traced to related news from around the globe. For example, if a news story is published in Indonesia about a Chinese tech company, the News Timeline links that story to one published 3 hours earlier in Malaysia. And that Malaysia article is then tied to an article published in Germany a day previously, which in turn is linked to a Hong Kong article published a few hours prior to that. So researchers can use the News Timeline to have a forensic analysis of the genesis and ongoing distribution of a news story, rumor, meme, or online posting.

MediaIntel.Asia also provides its data using its own taxonomies along with the Global Industry Classification Standard, Industry Classification Benchmark, Thomson Reuters Business Classification, and the IPTC NewsCodes. These various taxonomies provide researchers the power to drill down into necessary data easily and quickly.

New global media company focused on the business and finance of the emerging climate economy. Collective of journalists, business executives, and climate professionals create an alternative form of business journalism for the climate age.

New York, USA, November 5, 2020 /Xinwengao.com/ - With a focus on the doers and seekers of a new climate economy, Climate & Capital Media announced its launch this week with a focus on ten young climate entrepreneurs delivering climate change solutions around the world. This opening feature highlights a new generation of ventures ranging from low-cost energy for the developing world and unconventional financing systems to artificial intelligence (AI) and kinetic-energy generation.

“A new age requires a new voice. Climate & Capital Media is all about the emerging climate economy,” said founder Peter McKillop. “By bringing together people and capital with a shared mission of solving climate change, we represent a new kind of media organization that’s dedicated to a more equitable and sustainable economy.”

As a membership service, Climate&Capital will publish content, host events, and manage a directory, all with the goal of accelerating climate action at scale. Unlike other publications, Climate&Capital focuses exclusively on the climate economy, with an independent editorial policy that emphasizes conversations and engagement among the doers, the seekers, and the market influencers of the climate economy.

“We need bold and meaningful action on climate change,” said co-founder David Garrison. “And to move people and capital center stage, we need new ideas, new models, and new kinds of connections. “Our goal is for Climate&Capital to stand at the center of the emerging climate economy — to be a trusted source as we lead the transformations we all want to see.”

In addition to the Ten to Watch feature, recent stories published on Climate&Capital include a leadership discussion with Matthew Weatherley-White, a look at New Zealand’s ground-breaking adoption of the Taskforce on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) guidelines, a quick take on how luxury fashion is embracing climate finance, and a podcast interview of journalist-author Jonathan Alter about what Joe Biden should learn from Jimmy Carter in pushing his climate agenda.

McKillop was formerly a Managing Director at BlackRock, where he was responsible for leading the firm’s strategic communications and messaging for its iShares ETF and Indexing business. He has also held senior communication leadership positions at J.P. Morgan, KKR, UBS, and Bank of America. Before entering the financial communications field, Peter was a senior correspondent and bureau chief for Newsweek in New York, Tokyo, and Hong Kong.

Garrison has advised leaders on the most difficult challenges of building meaningful brands. He previously founded the Brytemoore Group, a brand consulting firm focused on bold transformations and was a founding principal of Edelman Consulting, the former management strategy consulting arm of global communications firm Edelman. David previously held senior marketing and strategy roles in music, healthcare, and agencies.

Editors include:

Blair Palese (Global Climate Editor) — co-founder and former CEO of 350.org Australia, and previously communications director for Greenpeace International, Greenpeace USA and The Body Shop.

Howard Manly (Climate Justice Editor) — a veteran journalist who has spent most of his award-winning print and television career focused on the intersection of race, politics, and society, including as a writer for Newsweek, the Boston Globe, the Philadelphia Inquirer, and the Bay State Banner, one of the leading black newspapers in America. Manly is a senior fellow at the Charles Hamilton Houston Institute for Race and Justice at Harvard Law School.

John Howell (Climate Finance Weekly Editor) — co-founder, editorial director, and chief of thought leadership for 3BL Media, for which he managed all original editorial content, wrote, and edited newsletters, and created the Brands Taking Stands initiative.

Frank Gibney Jr. (Editorial Director) — a senior journalist, writer, and editor who worked for decades as a correspondent, bureau chief, and editor for Newsweek and TIME around the U.S. and East Asia, writing extensively about Japan, China, and Vietnam, and always business.

Jyotika Bindra (South Asia Editor) — a writer based in New Delhi who was previously a fashion manager with responsibility for conducting sustainability workshops with employees regarding the eco-friendly disposal of fashion materials.

Tom Fortier (Director of Operations) — a long-time client service and product management leader, having spent 20 years in the financial technology industry, including years with Thomson Reuters and Nasdaq.

Climate&Capital is also supported by a group of advisors from across the worlds of business, finance, and media including:

Kofi Appenteng — President of the Africa-American Institute (AAI)

Ashley Allen Jones — Founder of i2 Capital

Elan J Blutinger — Managing Director of Alpine Consolidated

Adi Ignatius — Editor-in-Chief of Harvard Business Review (HBR)

Erika Karp — Founder and CEO of Cornerstone Capital

Fintech data provider has real-time news and data on over 4600 companies across 13000 taxonomies listed on Shenzhen and Shanghai stock exchanges

Hong Kong, August 8, 2020 /Xinwengao.com/ - Leading primary investment news and data platform China Money Network (www.ChinaMoneyNetwork.com) today unveiled its sister service Caishen.Co (www.Caishen.Co) to provide critical information about China’s secondary investment markets.

Caishen.Co monitors real-time data for over 4600 companies listed on the Shanghai Stock Exchange and the Shenzhen Stock Exchange. The platform then organizes more than 32000 monthly market event data across 13000+ taxonomies. Gaining insights and great monitoring of the stock markets in China is challenging for investors who don’t understand Chinese. There’s lots of data out there, and not much is provided in immediately usable formats for English-language investors. So Caishen.Co fills this great gap for global investors by providing immediately usable English-language data.

Caishen.Co uses natural language processing for data discovery, data extraction, sentiment analysis, and entity identification. Machine language translation then transfers all its investment and market event data into human-readable bytes for consumption on the new fintech platform. A robust API (application programming interface) is also available for institutional clients wishing to feed the stock exchange news and data immediately into their systems.

“As the leading financial data provider in China for the primary investment market, we learned at China Money Network how to equip private equity and venture capital firms with the data and deal flow they needed to make great deals,” says Nina Xiang, founder of China Money Network and author of “Red AI: Victories and Warnings From China’s Rise In Artificial Intelligence“.

Xiang continues, “With the launch of Caishen.Co, we are greatly expanding our artificial intelligence capabilities to create a fully autonomous system that directly feeds critical secondary market data related to all the listed companies and funds on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange and Shanghai Stock Exchange direct to our subscribers. There are manually-run less competitive systems that offer lower levels of service, so Caishen.Co provides a fantastic way to gain faster, better alpha-generating signals and insights from Chinese stock market data. Caishen was built in late 2019 and has been in beta with select investment clients since January 2020 – we’re excited to now open it to all investors!”

Caishen.Co monitors the latest news and osint on Chinese listed stocks and then immediately provides that data to its subscribers using its own proprietary taxonomies along with the Global Industry Classification Standard, Industry Classification Benchmark, Thomson Reuters Business Classification, and the IPTC NewsCodes. These various taxonomies give investors the power to drill down into necessary data easily and quickly.

The platform’s name is “Caishen”, which translates as the “Money God” of Chinese lore. Caishen.Co guides investors to help them profit off market-moving data in China.

About China Money Network
China Money Network delivers primary data for China’s primary markets. Subscribers on the platform follow China’s smart private equity investments, special situations, venture capital deals and technology innovations every day. By tracking China’s private equity, venture capital and technology sectors, China Money Network delivers actionable intelligence to its subscribers. We connect the data points to give global investors the tools to execute deals in China, deals that otherwise would simply never take place. The company’s Chinese language platform is at www.zhongjintoux.com. China Money Network, founded in 2011 in Shanghai, operates from satellites in Hong Kong, Beijing, Shenzhen, and Hangzhou.

About Caishen.Co
Gaining insights and great media monitoring of the stock markets in China is challenging for investors who don’t understand Chinese. There’s lots of data out there, and not much is provided in immediately usable formats for English-language investors. Caishen.Co does this for you. We give you the English-language data to level the investment playing field. So Caishen.Co fills that great need you require to increase the value of your investment portfolio for companies listed on the Shanghai and Shenzhen stock exchanges.

Between April 15 and May 15, 2020 the site saw a month-on-month increase of 350% in searches related to the Chinese military. Specifically, searches for “Chinese army” and “Chinese PLA” popped up as more global news played up the ongoing disagreements between the United States and China. And interest in various Hong Kong-related searches increased by 60-75% as global news of the Special Administrative Region turned from the fight against COVID-19 to the restart of protests in Hong Kong.

Interest in the Chinese Yuan rose 5-8%, as more searches related to “currency”, “devaluation” and “central bank” were made during this time period. But searches related to Coronavirus and COVID-19 generally fell by 6-15%. The only related term that continued to rise was searches based on Wuhan-related news.

Ltd for the establishment of the Hong Kong’s first Superyacht Management Services Center in Tsing Yi. Located at the Yiu Lian and Euroasia Dockyards, the centre will provide world-class supporting services for superyachts of over 45 meters, including yacht refit, repair and maintenance services.

Speaking at the signing ceremony witnessed by lawyers of Stephenson Harwood, Kara Yeung, HKCYIA Executive Director said “the establishment of a yacht management services center specifically designed for superyachts has marked a major milestone in the development of the yacht industry in Hong Kong. As more yachts are becoming bigger in recent years, the demand for quality superyacht management services is on the rise. However, existing facilities in Hong Kong are lagging behind leaving some very big space for development in this field.”

“Currently the majority of the maritime business in Hong Kong is taken up by commercial and cargo ships, with the repair and maintenance systems being mainly designed for these kind of ships. However, yacht management and maintenance is another service segment which the current system cannot cater to meet their specific needs,” She said.

Yeung remarked that the move is in line with China’s plan to develop the maritime economy. According to the Outline of the 13th Five-Year Plan for the National Economic and Social Development of China, the maritime economy grew by 7.5 per cent annually on average in the past five years reaching 7.8 trillion yuan in 2017. Beijing expects the maritime industry to be worth 10 trillion yuan by 2020 and account for around 15 percent of her GDP by 2035, showing the bright future of the maritime business.

As Hong Kong is expected to be a “super connector” in the implementation of the Belt and Road Initiative and the strategy to build a 21st century maritime Silk Road, the enhancing of multilateral maritime co-operations and fostering of world-class marine industrial clusters in the Greater Bay Area will be of special significance for Hong Kong.

Yeung said the HKCYIA Superyacht Management Services Center is set up in response to this national strategy as it will provide a transit point for superyachts to obtain supplies and fuel when they travel to destinations in Asia. Not only will more superyachts come to Hong Kong to help promote tourism, but also more foreign investors are expected to come and develop the related businesses.

According to Yeung, the HKCYIA Superyacht Management Services Center will collaborate with international yacht brands and top yacht management companies in providing world-class supporting services, including repair and maintenance, audit and survey, bunkering services, crew administration, logistics support, etc. Exclusive onshore tours with tailor-made itinerary can also be provided for ship owners and their crew.

HKCYIA will also join hands with the Maritime Services Training Institute (MSTI) and RINA Services S.p.A. to develop a superyacht management course, providing hands-on training to young people who have an interest in pursuing their careers in the yacht industry.

Yeung said this programme will be the first of its kind and the collaboration with RINA will provide training that meets international standards. “Nurturing the next generation is important for the long-term development of the high-end maritime economy. The Superyacht Management Services Center will provide the perfect environment for youngsters to learn the necessary skills from industry practitioners, as well as getting the opportunities to develop their careers.

Since last year, HKCYIA has been working closely with the relevant associations and organizations, with the plan of fostering the development of the yacht industry in China. A Memorandum of understanding was signed between the association and Asia Pacific Superyacht Association (APSA); Taiwan Yachts Industry Association (TYIA); Shenzhen Boating Industry Association (BIA); Zhuhai Ocean Association; Yacht Industry Development Association of Fujian; Hainan Cruise and Yacht Association and Sanya Yachting Association (SYA) to provide the foundations for future co-operations.

HKCYIA will also participate in the Singapore Yacht Show 2019 in April and the Versilia Yachting Rendez-vous in Viareggio in May in meetings with industry experts to seek further co-operations. Yeung has been invited as a guest speaker of the Asia Pacific Superyacht Conference 2019 to share her insights on the development of yacht industry in Hong Kong.

JOS, a technology solutions provider for Asia’s changing environment, and its partners, Manulife, Hong Kong Maxim’s Group[1] and Sino Group have announced the shortlisted teams in the annual JOS Innovation Awards. At a kick-off ceremony held today, the thirteen teams, numbering over forty students, participated in a learning and sharing session about customer experience challenges found in the technology, insurance, food beverage services and property sectors.

All those shortlisted can now look forward to the battle round on 12 April 2019 where four teams will walk away with HK$30,000 each and win a place on the JOS Innovation Awards 2018-19 mentorship programme. Industry pundits from JOS, Manulife, Hong Kong Maxim’s Group and Sino Group will provide valuable insights into learning and what it takes to succeed in business together with potentially offering internships.

“This year, the JOS Innovation Awards yet again attracted high calibre entries from students who approached the customer experience theme with great enthusiasm and creativity. There were some amazing ideas put forward and it was very hard to determine the shortlisted entries,” said Eric Or, Managing Director, Greater China, JOS. “Today’s sharing session allowed executives and students a common platform to voice their thoughts on current and future customer experience trends and how these may be addressed.”

The Awards themselves are designed to demonstrate creative thinking and problem solving skills to everyday business challenges. The JOS Innovation Awards 2018-19 attracted over fifty teams of between two and five university students in Hong Kong all examining the customer experience challenge and coming up with solutions for JOS, Manulife, Hong Kong Maxim’s Group and Sino Group.

“Especially impressive was how the entrants highlighted specific issues associated with the insurance sector and showed an understanding of the critical role our agents play in the customer experience journey,” said Francesco Lagutaine, Chief Marketing and Experience Design Officer, Manulife Asia. “Manulife is focused on helping people make decisions easier and their lives better and leveraging technology to deliver on this. We’re excited to see the ideas the students present after gaining more understanding of our industry and customers.”

During the kick-off ceremony, representatives from JOS, Manulife, Maxim’s Caterers Limited, and Sino Group took part in a panel discussion on customer experience, the challenges faced, trends and spoke about the JOS Innovation Award submissions. The session also provided the teams with genuine insights and learnings from Hong Kong business leaders in a closed-door setting.

“The customer journey is evolving in an increasingly tech-savvy world where everything is available at our fingertips. This is the same for the food and beverage industry with customers opting for diversity, speed and convenience. This requires innovative ways to understand the customers’ decision-making process. We are excited to gain inspiration from all the entries as this brings us even closer to customers and further enhances the overall customer experience,” said Louis Mah, Director of Information Technology, Hong Kong Maxim’s Group.

“The JOS Innovation Awards entries provide us with valuable insights to keep the customer experience fresh and relevant in the new era, particular at our properties. These enable us to identify areas for improvement and to harness technology to enhance the Sino Experience,” said Andrew Young, Associate Director (Innovation), Sino Group.

“There are over twenty thousand students graduating from Hong Kong universities every year who look to gravitate towards companies they perceive to have the strongest brands. This perception is shaped, in part, by the experience they have received as customers. Thus, the customer experience theme has allowed every participant to address issues they have experienced and to find a solution,” said Eric from JOS.
